HOME REMEDIES FOR DANDRUFF

Home Remedies for Dandruff

Dandruff Treatment using Fenugreek Seeds

The use of fenugreek seeds is one of the most important remedies in the treatment of dandruff. Two tablespoons of these seeds should be soaked overnight in water and ground into a fine paste in the morning. This paste should be applied all over the scalp and left for half an hour. The hair should then be washed thoroughly with soap-nut (ritha) solution or acacia concinna. This dandruff home remedy is especially effective for those suffering from dry dandruff. You will need to use this anti dandruff treatment at least twice a week for the first two weeks and then once a week for another two weeks. You could also use the water that you soak the seeds as an after-shower hair tonic. After you shampoo your hair, allow it to dry naturally and then soak a cotton ball in this liquid and apply it to your scalp. This is one of the simplest and most effective dandruff solutions and it can also be used as a preventative measure to make sure that you don’t have to suffer from dandruff again. The market is flooded with shampoos that claim to be the “best anti dandruff shampoo”, so make sure that you choose reliable products that suit your hair type.

Dandruff Treatment using Lime

The use of a teaspoon of fresh lime juice for the last rinse, while washing the hair, is another useful remedy. This not only leaves the hair glowing but also removes stickiness and prevents dandruff. Lime juice or lemon juice is an excellent oily dandruff home remedy and can also be used to prevent this scalp condition. You can also apply a paste made out of lemon juice and fuller’s earth to your scalp once a week. This pack is one of the best dandruff home remedies as it is an effective method of deep cleansing your scalp. The lemon juice in this paste will help to break down the excessive sebum that has collected on your scalp while the Fuller’s earth will help to cleanse your scalp of the excess dead skin cells.

Dandruff treatment using Green Gram Powder

A valuable prescription for removal of dandruff is the use of green gram powder. The hair should be washed twice a week with two tablespoons of this powder mixed with half a cup of curd.

Dandruff Treatment using Beet

Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is better for this purpose. Make sure that you use old pillowcases and sheets as this home treatment for dandruff may stain your linen.

Dandruff Treatment using Snake Gourd

The juice of snake gourd has been found beneficial in the prevention and treatment of dandruff. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp for this purpose. This natural dandruff treatment can be mixed with fresh beet juice to increase its effectiveness.

Dandruff Treatment using Other Remedies

Dandruff can be removed by massaging the hair for half an hour with curd which has been kept in the open for three days, or with a few drops of lime juice mixed with indian gooseberry juice every night, before going to bed. Another measure which helps to counteract dandruff is to dilute cider vinegar with an equal quantity of water and dab this on to the hair with cotton wool inbetween shampooing. Cider vinegar added to the final rinsing water after shampooing also helps to disperse dandruff.

Here are a few recipes I have tried out for controlling my dandruff:
  • Before washing your hair, rub aloe vera gel into your scalp. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and shampoo your hair as usual. Stinky and yucky but it works!
  • Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek (methi) seeds in water overnight. In the morning grind it into a fine paste. Apply to the scalp and leave for an hour. Wash with the mild shampoo mentioned in the next tip. Smells bad but I got pretty, manageable hair for almost a week and then, BANG, back came my dandruff.
  • Soak ripened fruits of soapnut (reetha) in hot water for 10-15 minutes and then crush with hand in the same water. Use this water daily as a shampoo after applying any of the dandruff packs mentioned. Good results.
  • Mix 6 spoonfuls water, a spoonful of lemon juice, half a teaspoon of salt and two spoonfuls of pure vinegar. Apply on the scalp with cotton wool. After shampooing, rinse again with vinegar water. Continue this for three months. This one I personally use. It stings but believe me, IT WORKS!!
  • Mix a handful of gram powder (chickpea flour) with a cup of curd and an egg to form a thick paste. Apply the paste to the hair and scalp and leave for an hour. This one gave a beautiful soft gloss to my curls. But if you don’t wash well, watch out for the stink!
  • Henna mixed with old curds and lemon juice is also extremely effective in controlling dandruff. Make the paste a day before and keep on for at least two hours. Lovely burgundy highlights and dandruff-free hair guaranteed.

  • Boil a handful of neem leaves in 4 teacups of water. After cooling and filtering, use for rinsing hair.
  •  Mix the olive oil with the almond oil. Leave it on about 5 min.s after it starts to burn. Rinse well to clear dandruff.

MAYONNAISE HAIR TREATMENT

Many of you have probably heard of the famous mayonnaise hair treatment and have thought to yourself, “Does that actually work?” Well, the answer is a huge and resounding, “YES!”
Sadly, no matter what the circumstances or our hair type, we all occasionally suffer from damaged hair. The truth is, with the amount of styling products that we use on a daily basis, hair restoration treatments and techniques have become a part of life.
Hair treatments in salons can cost upwards of hundreds of dollars per visit, which can really break the bank. Some of the over the counter products can cause more damage than good due to the low quality ingredients. So, it’s important that we find a balance between the super expensive and super lame treatments in order to get what we’re looking for.
This is where the mayonnaise treatment comes in. It is low-cost and quite literally, a miracle worker. So say “so long” to being broke, trash those drugstore brands and open your pantry!
Step #1: Purchase some mayonnaise at your local grocery store. It doesn’t matter which brand you choose, just as long as it is regular mayonnaise. (No need to get the low-fat stuff—it’s going in your hair not in your body!)
Step #2: Prep your hair using warm water to get it nice and damp, but not soaking wet.
Step #3: Scoop some mayonnaise out of the jar and start rubbing it through your hair like you would a conditioner. The amount that you are going to use really depends on the length and thickness of your hair. Feel free to lather on the amount that you feel most comfortable with.
Step #4: Wrap your head of hair with a plastic wrap, a plastic bag, or shower cap to trap the heat inside. Heat opens the pores and allows the treatment to penetrate strands further and thus work better.
Step #5: Let the treatment sit on the hair for at least 20 minutes. You can let it sit longer depending on how damaged your hair already is.
Step #6: Wash the mayonnaise out. This is most easily done in the shower using a diluted shampoo. You may need to shampoo a few times before you are able to get all of the mayonnaise out. Be sure to use the shampoo gently, not tangling the hair.

Extras

You can also add other natural ingredients such as olive oil, avocado, or egg can be added to the mayonnaise mixture to assist in the improvement of extra damaged hair. Adding almond oil and vinegar can help to get rid of lice.
Overall, the mayonnaise treatment will restore moisture and vitality to your strands without the high cost or a salon or the damaging effect of low quality products. This is a great treatment to use on a monthly basis and will leave you feeling glamorous! Who knew that looking good could be this easy?
